Að hádegi fimmtudagsins 8. júlí hittust tuttugu manns við íslensku ræðismannaskrifstofuna í Barcelona, til að sýna reiði sína í garð íslenska ríkisins vegna réttarhaldanna sem nú fara fram yfir nímenningunum sem ákærðir eru fyrir árás á Alþingi 8. desember 2008. Ef raunverulegt lýðræði væri til staðar hefðu raddir þeirra sem fóru inn í þinghúsið verið boðnar velkomnar og þeim gefið vægi. En þar sem raunverulegt lýðræði getur aldrei orðið að veruleika undir ríkisfyrirkomulaginu voru raddir þeirra kæfðar og þaggaðar niður.
Það er alveg á hreinu að þessar aðgerðir íslenska ríkisins eru undan pólitískum og hugmyndafræðilegum rótum runnar: Að velja tiltekna einstaklinga út úr hópi þúsunda manna sem mótmæltu – og meira að segja velja tiltekna einstaklinga úr þeim hópi sem fór inn í þinghúsið. Það er einnig á hreinu að með þessum aðgerðum freistir ríkið þess að setja fordæmi, að bæla niður það mögulega framtíðar andóf sem gæti raskað ró hins óbreytta ástands. Kúgunaraðferðir íslenska ríkisins teygja sig meira að segja til ræðismannaskrifstofunnar, sem kallaði á aðstoð ofbeldisfyllstu lögregludeildar Barcelona – „Mossos“ eins og hún er kölluð.
Fjöldi „Mossos“ lögreglumanna voru í inngangi byggingarinnar auk þess sem nokkrir óeirðarbílar biðu í nálægri götu. Í byggingunni sem hýsir íslensku ræðismannaskrifstofuna er fjöldi annarra skrifstofa og venjulega er þar aðeins einn vörður. Íslenska skrifstofan er á áttundu hæð og þegar við komum að húsinu var okkur sagt að við fengjum ekki að fara inn í bygginguna sem hópur, heldur gæti eitt okkar komið inn og rætt við einstakling sem hefur ekkert með íslenska ríkið að gera, heldur tengist einungis byggingunni. Á meðan mótmælunum stóð gekk hins vegar fjöldi fólks inn og út úr byggingunni. Að lokum sagði lögreglan okkur að íslenska skrifstofan væri lokuð og að aðili sem hefði með bygginguna að gera gæti komið niður, hlustað á kröfur okkar og skilað þeim til ræðismannsins. Tveir úr hópi mótmælenda hringdu þá á skrifstofuna þar sem símanum var svarað og þeim sagt að skrifstofan væri opin. Það breytti engu varðandi hegðun lögreglunnar sem hélt stöðu sinni og sagði skrifstofuna lokaða.
Við tókum því stöðu á götunni, stóðum þar í meira en klukkustund með borða sem á stóð á katalónsku: „Stöðvið kúgunina á íslenskum aktívistum!“ Og: „Ef nímenningarnir verða felldir, fellur íslenska ríkið líka!“ Við dreifðum dreifimiðum um kúgunina og um ástandið á Íslandi veturinn 2008–2009, bjuggum til hávaða og kölluðum slagorð til stuðnings nímenningunum – og auðvitað gegn hinu kapítalíska kerfi.
Aðferðirnar sem notaðar voru til að loka aðganginum að byggingunni sem dags daglega er opin hverjum sem er – alveg eins og í Alþingishúsinu, 8. desember 2008 – sýna enn einu sinni hvernig íslenska ríkið mun beita hvaða aðferðum sem er við að viðhalda núverandi ástandi og draga úr öllum þeim borgararéttindum sem enn eru til staðar undir yfirvaldi ríkisins.
En mógúlar íslenska ríkisins átta sig ekki á því að kúgunaraðferðir þeirra slökkva ekki í baráttunni, heldur einungis styrkja hana. Og þeir átta sig heldur ekki á því að nímenningarnir eru ekki einir í baráttu sinni. Ykkar barátta er okkar barátta! Enga pólitíska fanga!

On Thursday, July 8th at about 12:30, 20 people went to the Icelandic consolate in Barcelona to show there outrage against the Icelandic state; for there existance and there heavy repression of the 9 people of Reykjavík because of their actions at the parliament December 8th 2008. If there were any kind of true democracy their demands would have been welcomed and allowed a space. But since obviously there can never be true state democracy, the peoples demands were repressed and silenced.
It is obvious that these actions by the state of Iceland are politically and ideologically motivated. Targeting specific people out of the thousands that protested, and even out of the people who entered the parliament this particular day. In these actions it is also obvious that the government is trying to set a precedent, to squash any future dissidence and outrage that could disrupt their status quo. The repressive measures even extended to the consulate, where it seems that they asked for assistance by the most aggressive riot police in Barcelona, the Mossos.
There were more than 20 Mossos in the entrance of the building and 4 riot vans were in the surrounding block. The building which houses the Icelandic consulate has many different offices and normally only has one guard. The consulate is on the 8th floor of this building. When we arrived we were told we would not be allowed inside this building as a group, and that only one person could come inside to talk to someone that was not from the parliament itself, but a director of the building. During the demonstration, other people continuously walked inside and out from the building. When we got there, the police had told us that the consulate was closed and that some director from the building would come down to hear our demands and relay them to the consulate. After this, two people left to call the consulate, who answered the phone and had said that they were open. Then we tried to call and hand the phone to the policeman but he would not accept and kept with his position of them being closed.
We demonstrated in the streets for a little over an hour, with banners saying in Catalan, “Stop the repression against the activists in Iceland!” and “If the Reykjavik 9 fall, so will the Icelandic state!” We passed out leaflets about the repression and situation in Iceland from last winter, banged pots and pans, and shouted slogans in support of the Reykjavik 9 and anti capitalist chants. These continued repressive measures to blockade the entrance to this place that is legal to enter any other time – just like the parliament in December of 2008 – show once again that the Icelandic state will take all measures to keep their status quo, and suspend all civil rights that are even left under their state apparatus.
But what they don’t realize is that the struggle will not die, it will only strengthen. And that the Reykjavik 9 are not alone in this struggle. Your struggle is our struggle! No political prisoners! All political prisoners must be set free!
